Don't believe her!

Posted by Anne @ 04/25/2004 11:29 PM PDT
Don't let her scare you!

Carmen will tell you she is a "tough" teacher on the first day of class, and there is some truth to that, but overall she is very understanding and interesting woman. We all thought she was a little crazy at first and so we rushed to sign-up for the Pass/Fail option. Now, we all wish we hadn't because we came to class regularly and are getting good grades. Class with Carmen is anything but boring and she gladly invites your friends into class. Carmen is a student too, so she understands the pressures of school and she doesn't assign extra homework!

I thought she was insane!

Posted by Brian @ 04/19/2004 01:25 AM PDT Carmen definitely makes class fun and interesting which can make a big difference when learning a foreign language. The first couple of weeks I thought she was insane, and the rest of the semester proved me right. Not really, but you'll rarely have a teacher with more enthusiasm. She also plans out every class to the minute. It's usually a pretty entertaining class. Enjoy.

Stay calm in class!

Posted by Andy @ 04/19/2004 11:07 PM PDT Thought I'd add something more meaningful than 'testing' this time, but it looks like pretty much every point has been thoroughly covered. Just make sure you do all the work and stay calm in class, and you should do fine.

So sacred!

In the beginning I guess that I scared Carmen as much as I scared her (she said I ha d a really serious face the first day). But by the end of the class Carmen has become one of my favorite teachers at the University. She made learning a tough subject somewhat easier and fun sometimes too... And ask for extra credit too, she loves that (just kidding on the last thing). It definately ended up being the best spanish class I've ever had.

She scared me a lot!

Posted by Cristina @ 04/14/2004 10:26 AM PDT Hey. I have to say the first day of Carmen's class scared me a lot. So much so that I was thinking about dropping the class. The very first thing she told us was how strict she was, but as the semester went on we found out it wasn't true. Carmen is the nicest and most enthusiastic teacher I have ever had. She always finds a way to make the class interesting and fun. I had such a great time that I signed up for Carmen's class for the second semester of Spanish. Yes!! I have had Carmen for both SPN1130 and 1131 and I am so glad that I did. She is a great teacher and a wonderful person. Good luck to you all and have fun in the class. :)

Be careful!

Posted by Ashley @ 04/15/2004 01:06 AM PDT BE Careful! Carmen will try to scare you into thinking she is very strict. She may grade tough on the compositions, but she makes class time enjoyable. This is a class you have to go to everyday so you want to make sure you have someone there that can keep you interested. Carmen is very intelligent especially when it comes to Spanish. She is a native speaker which helps when it comes to her teaching, but she will talk very fast. Though it is hard to understand at first, this will only help you understand the language. IF YOU ARE NOT SIGNING UP FOR THIS CLASS TO LEARN THE LANGUAGE, THIS IS NOT THE CLASS FOR YOU. You will be expected to learn, and if you give her the chance, she will help you succeed. Gracias por todos Carmen!!!!

She is pretty tough!

Posted by Jennifer @ 04/14/2004 01:11 AM PDT I entered the class a few days late & a few people told me Carmen was pretty tough & the class was hard. So not true! Carmen made class so interesting & fun, it wasn't that hard to learn. Sometimes she did talk kinda fast, b/ if you ask her to explain things better she'll try to help you out until you understand. Yeah, she can be pretty tough, but she's also crazy & really funny. If you study for the class you should have no problem. Turn your hw in on time b/c she doesn't accept it late!

Her accent and fast paced speech!

Posted by Jennie @ 04/13/2004 03:14 PM PDT Hello When I went into class on the first day, I was very afraid that I wasn't going to do well in this class. I was afraid that with Carmen's accent and fast paced speech, I was going to have trouble learning the material. Nothing could be further from the truth. I got used to her teaching and every class was entertaining. After a few weeks I was glad that I had stayed in her class. Anyway, have fun and good luck.

We got off kind of bad!!!

Posted by Monica @ 04/13/2004 10:24 AM PDT
Carmen is so funny! And she definitely makes class interesting. The only times I did not attend class were when I was out of town. I missed the first week of classes due to a family death, and Carmen and I got off kind of bad, but she was determined to get me to like the class. And she succeeded, because I actually enjoy going each day to see what jokes she will tell and if she will TANGO!! :) Thanks Carmen and GOOD LUCK!!
